Adult Literacy Programme
Adult Literacy Programme was started in the year 1984 by Late Dr. Mrs. Joyce Scott with 150 students at 5 centres. The students were between 18 to 85 years. They have 2 hour class for 5 days in a week and it lasted for 10 months. They learn the three Rs (Reading, Writing and Arithmetic) through Adult Literacy Primers which was designed by Dr. Mrs. Scott in partnership with Literacy International. The Primers were first published in Telugu and was later adapted to 8 more regional languages. Each person becoming literate in India will help up to 5 others to become literate and thereby, perpetuating education.
AS STUDENTS PRACTICE READING, THEY ALSO LEARN:

- Nutrition & Proper diet
- Community sanitation
- Family relationships
- Pre- & post natal care
- Self-help skills-financial improvement
- Political rights
- Government programs for the poor
- AIDS, leprosy, and alcohol awareness
- Importance of sending children to school
- Benefits of stopping child marriages.
- Morals and ethics
Each graduate is given their own book.
In a nutshell Literacy Programmes reach the community through:
